Mud Wrestling on Roatan - Part 2

Sometimes when you're Mud Wrestling on Roatan you win, sometimes the mud wins. Our car was held in the grip of wet, gooey, slimy Roatan mud for one week. There was just enough rain to keep us from getting the truck out by ourselves, so we had to call in the professionals. Join us for the adventure.

Romel handles all the Spanish broadcasting at Radio HRGS and he is a good friend. Sandi and I visited Romel and his wife Iris the other day to see what kind of progress has been made on their remodeling. Let's check it out.

Studio Refitting at Radio HRGS

In our previous videos we documented our work in reestablishing the digital link between our studios and the transmitter site. Once that was established we were then able to bring the studio equipment back to the studios. The operation went rather smoothly and we are now back to broadcasting from the studios.

Tower Climbing Part 2

When we left you last time on Tower Climbing Part 1 we had a tenuous link established from our studios to our transmitter site. After beating our heads against the wall for a while, Jerry found out that the power supply that came with the new data radio didn't have enough "Juice Bruce." After building a better power supply we were ready to put the other antenna back up on the tower.

Tower Climbing Part 1

During the big thunderstorm August 30th a lightening strike took out part of our studio to transmitter link. It took us a while to get the replacement equipment down here to Roatan, but it finally arrived. Our hope was that we could switch the new equipment for the torched equipment and everything would get up and run. That isn't exactly what happened. I am not sure how many times I went up and down our tower, but I can tell you that there were four days of tower climbing before everything was set up properly.

Broadcasting At The Top of the Hill

Since the big thunderstorm August 30th, we have had to be Broadcasting At The Top of the Hill. A lightening strike took out part of our studio to transmitter link and so all the computers and control boards in the main studio had to be moved to our transmitter site up on Dixon Hill. One of the drawbacks is that we have to bring a fresh supply of programming up to the transmitter site every day. Come on, I'll take you along for the ride.

Cheesehead Construction

While we were in the States visiting family we stopped in to see Sandi's sister Jan and her husband Ron. Since I was kind enough to put Ron to work while they visited us here on Roatan Ron returned the favor. Nothing fancy here, just throwing up some sheathing inside Ron's shed.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game

While we were in the States visiting family my daughter Susanna decided to Take Me Out To The Ball Game for my birthday. We went to a Minnesota Twins game at Target Field. This was my first time at Target Field and the first time at a Twins game since some time in the mid 90s. Why don't you join us? I'll get you in for free.

A Roatan Construction Project

It may seem crass to have visiting relatives and drag them into A Roatan Construction Project, but that is exactly what we did. A while ago Sandi's sister Jan Ecklor and her husband Ron visited us here on Roatan. While they were here Ron and I went over to Sandy Bay to help Romel Hernandez, our Spanish announcer at the radio station, with his home construction project. While this isn't This Old House, we did have a great time working together.

Electrical Problems on Roatan...Part 2

In our previous video Electrical Problems on Roatan we thought we had our fuse popping problem solved. Alas that was not the case. This video takes place over several frustrating weeks. In the end however the cavalry came riding to the rescue and we solved our Electrical Problem on Roatan.

We recently had the opportunity to visit the Maya ruins at Quirigua, Guatemala. This site is well know for having the tallest stellas in the Maya world as well as the only place where you will see carvings on large round boulders. Quirigua is a small site but very beautiful and very peaceful. Come on, we'll take you there.

Saturday on Roatan

This past Saturday morning on Roatan started off as a beautiful morning. The Caribbean was calm, the beach was glorious and it was a great way to start the day in paradise...or was it? An overnight power outage on Roatan caused a chain reaction of events that caused a fair amount of gnashing of teeth. Never the less the day ended well and it was indeed a good day on Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras.

Cabinets, Soffits and Roatan

This video goes back in time just a bit to when the Hindt family was visiting us here on Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras. We worked on several projects, specifically cabinets and soffits. Oh and we had some fun along the way.

Electrical Problems on Roatan

Electrical problems on Roatan, you never know when they will occur or how long it will be before the problem is solved. For the last three weeks here on Roatan we here at Radio HRGS have struggled with an on again off again electrical problem that has at various times, including several times at night, left us without power. Until today that is. Come along with us on this hot and humid day as we find and then slay our electrical problem here in the Bay Islands of Honduras.

Mother's Day On Roatan - pt. 2

Mother's Day On Roatan - pt. 1

What are you doing for Mother's Day? We thought we'd show you what Mother's Day is like on a tropical island like Roatan. Our Mother's Day video starts off in the kitchen of Sandi Silseth, as Peter and Sandi are making breakfast smoothies. Where it goes from there I have no idea. Happy Mother's Day.

Kids Coconuts and Root Beer Floats

While the Hindt family was visiting us here on Roatan they expressed a desire to help us with various projects that we have. So we all rolled up our sleeves and set to work in the tropical sun. After a while everybody stopped to try some coconut milk, even Saydee the Wonder Dog. We got quite a bit done that day and had a lot of fun too.

Visitors on Roatan - pt. 1

Living here on Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras we are blessed to live in a tropical setting (duh) right near the ocean. We were also blessed recently to have some visitors. Friends of ours, the Hindt family from Canton, MI, came down on a family mission trip. This video is part one of several videos documenting the fact that not only did the Hindts work while they were here but they also had a good time. One of the highlights in this video is a trip to West Bay Beach for some snorkeling.

Ancient Secrets of La Ceiba, Honduras

I had to travel to the mainland of Honduras for business recently and my travels brought me through the city of La Ceiba. In the past I've taken you to the La Ceiba golf course and other places of interest. Today however I am going to show you some of the ancient secrets of La Ceiba...perhaps this will be the first time these images have ever been seen by outsiders.

Free Form Friday on Roatan

Friday is our day off so we try to accomplish a few things that didn't get done during the rest of the week. Here on Roatan we use propane bottles for our stoves and it just so happens that we were almost completely out. Besides that I needed to hit some golf balls and Saydee needed to play in the ocean and then get a bath. Why don't you join us for our Free Form Friday here on Roatan? I promise you won't have to take a bath if you don't want to take one.

Flooding on Roatan

While I was on the mainland of Honduras taking care of station business the island of Roatan received a lot of rain, enough rain to flood part of our house. Sandi was stuck with cleaning up the mess without my help, but Jerry and Mildred Petersen came over to lend a hand in my absence. While this video won't show you the flooding at its worst, you'll get a good idea of what happened.

Getting A Driver's License in Roatan - pt. 2

I hope you have enjoyed walking some of the streets of Roatan so far. Today we are going to head into Coxen Hole where I need to pick up a vehicle and then drive to the police station. There will be a few sights along the way and eventually we will get to the police station. Do you have your shoes tied? Let's go.

Getting a Driver's License on Roatan - pt. 1

Six years ago I was issued a five year driver's license for the country of Honduras. A week ago I was stopped at a check point and the police officer asked to see my license. I didn't have a clue it was expired. I then set about to renew my license. Here in Honduras a person needs to have a physical exam and an eye exam before a license will be issued. Once I took care of those two items I set off for town to get my license. Why don't you come along? It's a nice walk.

If you are looking for a place to spend the week, kick back, enjoy the beach or do some diving you can't go wrong with the Blue Bahia Resort. Today we are going to eat at the restaurant with our co-workers Jerry and Mildred Petersen. The Blue Bahia Restaurant is well known for Bar-B-Que and today they certainly lived up to their reputation. It's too bad you can't taste the food through this video. I guess you'll have to come down and visit us.

A Roatan Sunday in West End

You may wonder what a typical Sunday is like for us here on Roatan. I don't know that we have had a typical Sunday yet. This past Sunday we witnessed a baptism at the largest baptismal tank I had ever seen. This thing was huge and it was right there in West End. We'd like to show you what that was like as well as a situation that we really hadn't planned for.

Trolling For Dogs On Roatan

You may be wondering what we do for excitement here on the island of Roatan. Sometimes we have to be creative and sometimes activities just unfold right before our eyes. Such is the case with the latest sport to be sweeping the island and that is the sport of Dog Trolling. This is a new sport, but the seeds have been here for some time. To compete you need to have a dog and then you have to take the dog for a walk; the rest just takes care of itself. Come on along with Saydee , our German Shepherd, and me and we'll show you some of the finer points of Dog Trolling.
